It does contain persulfates which are the best in removing the new direct dyes and permanent hair color dyes but it does so without creating excessive damage to the hair like traditional persulfate based removers of the past.
The ACTIVATOR cream is specifically formulated. Conditioning ingredients help to buffer and keep the hair in a moisturized condition to improve shine, combability and condition. The ACTIVATOR is oil-based which means the primary ingredient maintains the optimal condition of the hair. It’s a cream and not a powder so it is balanced to do the job efficiently. The cream activator is mixed with a cream 20 vol peroxide which is also a buffered solution which helps to keep the hair moisturized and in optimal condition during the removal process.
- What should I expect to see after the color is removed?
That’s going to include a lot of variable factors which depend on the type of hair color, the amount of build up over time and the condition of the hair. - Semi/Demi Permanent Hair Color
Usually semi/demi permanent colors will either be removed 100% and the hair returned to its bleached state. With some semi/demi permanent colors 75-80% of the color will be removed which is still enough to color over. - Permanent Hair Color
Permanent color will return the hair to its level of lightening which the permanent hair color lifted it to. It won’t return the hair to the natural hair color but to whatever level it was lightened. In most cases the pigment will be removed to expose a reddish to orange decolorizing of the natural hair color. A cool based color can then be added to restore the color to its natural level or a more fashion color can be applied using the lifted pigment as a base for formulation.
Colour Off™ can be reapplied to remove any residual pigment but it’s recommended that the hair be allowed to “rest” for at least 24 hours before reapplication.
- How should I apply Color Off™ to the hair?
That’s a good question since Colour Off™ can be used to remove so many kinds of color. If you are removing all of the color in the hair and it’s longer than 4 inches then you’re going to need more than one kit. Regardless of hair length, we recommend applying Colour Off™ at least ½” off the scalp and almost to the ends, leaving about ¼” to ½” of the ends without the color remover. The reason to not apply to the scalp directly is simply that this area will decolorize faster because of the heat of the head and in some cases become brighter than the main part of the hair. Leaving the ends out helps to minimize any potential damage to this sensitive area. To balance out the full-color removal, apply to the mid-lengths of the hair and allow to process for 15 minutes and then apply to the scalp and ends. Process until the desired amount of color is removed. - If you have color growing out only apply directly to the areas with the color. Don’t put it on any other areas because they’re not needed. Separate sections with clear plastic wrap to help avoid overlapping or transfer of Colour Off™ to other areas of the hair you don’t need to be removed.
